Ayurveda: ‘The Science of Life’ (Pt. 2)

Continuing from my last post, we now understand that there are five elements of the universe. But we can also connect these five elements in the outside universe, to our own internal universe.

We do this by connecting the elements to our own senses of the body.

We have five sense organs in the body, and so these are linked to each other:

Element Organ Sense

Space Ears Sound

Air Skin Touch

Fire Eyes Vision

Water Tongue Taste

Earth Nose Smell

As you can see, each element is directly linked to our own sense organs, linking the outside universe of the world into our own internal universe of the body.

To relate this outside universe to our own unique body type, we have the ‘Tri-dosha’, which means the three functions of the body.

According to Ayurveda, each of us have the five elements in our body, but two are more dominant, and this is where we can interpret our ‘dosha-type’, which you might have heard of before. Once you know what dosha type you are, you can look at the sort of diet, exercise and lifestyle you should lead, to be the healthiest version of you.

When you are feeling imbalanced in anyway, you can look at ways to prevent or regain your health, using your dosha type as a guide to get you back into balance…
Basically Ayurveda is one big balancing act!

Life is changing, we are changing, the seasons change and this is happening all at once, so we must follow nature and our dosha type each day, to ensure we are all healthy bodies!
It sounds confusing, but once you have found out your own dosha type then you can start to connect the dots and things start to make a lot more sense!

In my next post, we will discover how to work out what dosha type you are, and from there you can put into action and delve deep into the world of Ayurveda, based on you as a person!

With health and love,

Ali
